REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Agriculture, Andi Amran Sulaiman, said this year Indonesia has exported 35 thousand tons of onions.
"We planned to import onions, but in fact we exported 35 thousand tons of onions," said Amran in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi, Saturday (24/10) night.
According to him, in addition to export of onions, another success in food sector this year was the export of green beans, including corns. During this time, Amran added, there were a lot of news coverage related to food imports, while food exports of some commodities were hardly exposed.
"It's been 365 days or one year of office of President Jokowi-JK government and we have not been imported rice. The rice production this year was the highest in the last 10 years," he explained.
He said, it should be noted that Indonesia has remarkable achievement because it has not opened way for rice import. Rice import was considered to only support the welfare of Vietnam and Thailand farmers.
