REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian Retailers Association (Aprindo) asked the government to lower the interest rate of Bank Indonesia (BI) to face business competition in ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).

Chairman of Aprindo Tutum Raharta said, retailers were well prepared to face AEC. Therefore, retailers has always been competed with foreign countries, not only in ASEAN level.

"However, in order to face the competition in AEC, according to him, it would be not balanced if the interest rate in Indonesia is still high," Tutum explained, Monday (4/1).

Tutum stated, with a decrease in interest rates, domestic entrepreneurs could compete with similar indicators. He considered, retailers were able to compete in terms of capability.

"Retail business in the country has been able to provide industrial products for the community," he said.

Moreover, throughout 2015, inflation rate has dropped to below 4 percent (yoy). Later, if interest rates decrease, he continued, the competitiveness of domestic retailers would be better.
