REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MEDAN -- The government plans to develop Kuala Tanjung, which includes Batubara and Simalungun districts, North Sumatra province, to become a new city which will include a number of industries.
The Directorate General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment, and Electronic, the Ministry of Industry, I Gusti Putu Surya Wirawan, said here on Wednesday that the area will include a number of companies that would develop businesses.
In Kuala Tanjung, there will be PT Inalum, which will include a variety of downstream aluminum industries.
Meanwhile, PT Pelindo 1 will manage the seaport in Kuala Tanjung, which is currently in the process of being built.
These industries need a seaport as a gateway to distribute their products.
According to Surya Wirawan, the Kuala Tanjung industrial zone is expected to become an industrial corridor, such as Jakarta-Cikampek, which has a number of industries.
