Sri Lanka imports fishes from Indonesia

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Fisheries of Sri Lanka. The cooperation between two countries is to improve the economy especially in the fisheries sector.

Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Susi Pudjiastuti said Indonesia and Sri Lanka signed new partnership related to Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing. Sri Lanka wanted the agreement because Sri Lanka felt the natural resources of their sea has been stolen by others.

With the same ocean region with Indonesia, Sri Lanka hoped the cooperate will eradicate the illegal fishing in the sea area belonged to them.

"Sri Lanka is share a beach with Aceh, in one area. So the agreement related to IUU," Susi said at the Presidential Palace, Wednesday.
