Alexis hires 36 Chinese, 57 Thai, 5 Uzbek nationals

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan denied the claim that said there was no foreign workers at Alexis hotel and its massage parlor. He ensured at least there were about 100 people from several countries who became workers at Alexis.

"We have read the details of the record. The workers from China is 336, Thailand 57, Uzbek 5 and Kazakhstan 2," Anies said at Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday (Oct 31).

He also mentioned that working permit for workers at Alexis Hotel has expired as of October 31. He asserted, since then those foreign workers do not have permission to work. It meant they are now illegal and became domain of Ministry of Manpower.

Anies reiterated, that there would be no compromise to unlawful entertainment places. He warned all the businessman who run such places to not abuse the permits granted. 

Also, he made sure that he would act decisively against immoral practices that disturb the public.

"When the permit is only for entertainment places and hotels, use it correctly and wisely. Do not misuse it," he added.

Anies recently refused to extend Alexis' operation permit following citizens reports and media coverage regarding illegal activities at Alexis. The hotel was widely rumored to have hosted high-class prostitution services.

Earlier, spokesperson of PT Grand Ancol Hotel, Lina, stated management of Alexis hotel and Griya Pijat Alexis (massage parlor) are aware of its image in the society. She admitted, Alexis's bad image is its weakness as business entity.

Lina also said, Alexis management is open to critics and sugesstions. Therefore, they are ready to improve their image. 

"Alexis has been identified as a bad place. So, we wil clean up. We will rearrange our management to get out of the negative stigma," Lina said at Alexis hotel, North Jakarta, on Tuesday.
