Mass Production of Student Made Car Starts 2013

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID,JAKARTA -- The issue of student made car will gain a momentum next year. Minister of Education and Culture of Indonesia, Muhammad Nuh, said the cars would be massively produced in 2013.

“Our main objective is to encourage the mass production of student made car then sold them in domestic market,” Nuh said on Monday (1/9).

During 2012, the ministry would complete the technical issues then hopefully the cars would be ready for mass production in the following year.

Furthermore, Nuh explained about three alternatives to achieve the goal. They were seeking cooperation with state owned companies, offering the project to private sector, or combining both private and state owned companies to handle the project.

“I am optimistic that this project will attract domestic market. With around 220 milions of population, Indonesian is such a big potential market,” he said.

Yet, Nuh warned that this potential would be hampered by negative politically motivated intervention. He reminded of the case of Indonesian aerospace company, recently known as PT Dirgantara Indonesia.

The issue of student made car stole public attention since Mayor of Solo, Joko Widodo, purchased one unit of Kiat Esemka. He used the car built by a Solo vocational school, as his official car.
