REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The state own PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) will reduce regular commuter train services gradually and replace them with newer ones from April 2012.  As the operator of commuter trains in Jabodetabek, PT KAI plans to recall two commuter trains every semester. Yet, chief of operational area I of PT KAI, Purnomo Radiqy, said it took time to recall all trains

“We will stop the regular commuter train service. We will start replacing them with the air-conditioning ones,” Radigy said on Tuesday.

The tickets price will be reduced from 7,000 IDR to 6,500 IDR. Radigy said, the price-reduced ticket policy did not occur in any other countries but Indonesia.

“The more commuter lines, the cheaper the ticket. The price might become as lower as 6,000 IDR,” he added.

According to Radigy, the ticket price is quite reasonable since the trains operating in Jabodetabek are used ones. By using second hand trains, the operator can slash the ticket price.

“Used train is as cheaper as 10 percent of new one. While the span of used train operation is between 15 and 20 years,” he explained then added that new train was very expensive.
