REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BOGOR – The meeting between United Nation Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) is expected to give a good sign in Indonesian international relations. “This is a good sign that relationship between Indonesia-UN can be increased on the next year,” SBY said after the meeting in Bogor Palace on Tuesday.
He claimed that Indonesian relations with international organizations including the UN were strong and developed. Indonesia and UN is drafting an agreement to improve relations between both.
During the meeting, SBY and Ban discussed various topics, ranged from the Middle East issues, Africa, Strait of Hormuz, and some issues related to MDG’s and climate change. Some regional issues discussed were South China Sea, Korea, and Thailand-Cambodia borders, and also the emerging national issue related to inter-religious harmony.
“For Indonesia, we discussed the effort to maintain inter-religious harmony despite the challenges,” SBY said.
The discussion is very constructive and productive. Indonesia is expected to increase the contribution to the world and get UN’s support to increase the contribution.
Ban Ki-moon arrived in Bogor Palace at 09.00 am and was welcomed by SBY and Ministers of Indonesian united cabinet II. It was the third time Ban Ki-moon came to Indonesia. SBY congratulated Ban Ki-moon for his wedding anniversary.
