REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – A member of government’s alliance, Golkar Party, had decided to oppose the government's plan to increase the fuel price on Thursday. On paper, the opposition parties outnumber the supporters of fuel price increase.  Secretary-General of Golkar Party, Idrus Marham, said the policy on fuel price increasing stained the people’s basic need. 

“There is no need to raise fuel price. We reject the increasing of fuel price,” Marham said on Thursday. Golkar instructed its faction in House of Representatives to vote against the fuel price increase.

Golkar perceives that the government should be the one to bear the burden of the fuel problem. The party believes, the economic stability will better without increasing the fuel price. 

The Chairman of Demokrat Party, Anas Urbaningrum, expects all members of the Joint Secretariat can walk together, be solid and cohesive, as it is a realization of coalition.

Golkar has 106 votes in the House. With Golkar unites with four other parties (Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra), and People’s Conscience Party (Hanura)) that reject the fuel price increasing, the total votes will be 300.  The total seats outnumber Demokrat and its allies (The National Mandate Party (PAN), United Development Party (PPP), and National Awakening Party (PBB)) which support the plan with its 260 votes.
