Subsidized fuel restriction starts on July

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Government plans to start the restriction for subsidized fuel usage for private car in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi (Jabodetabek) in July 2012. The Director General of Oil and Gas in the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Evita Legowo, said on Monday the restriction would begin on May but only for official state cars in Java and Bali.

“After that, we have 60 days before the restriction is applied for cars in Jabodetabek. Then gradually, it is applied in Java-Bali, depends on to the availability of Pertamax,” she said.

She added, government still studied the restriction mechanism. Temporarily, the restriction was based on the machine capacity. Legowo also explained the 60 days would be the time for preparation of the control by Downstream Oil and Gas Regulating Agency (BPH Migas).

The control mechanism of fuel distribution is the authority of BPH Migas. Government prepares 400 billion IDR budget to control the fuel. Government plans to restrict the usage of fuel by private car to maintain the subsidized fuel quota in revised state budget 2012 in the amount of 40 million kiloliters. If it is not controlled, government predicts the consumption will reach 46-47 million kiloliters.
