REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, ACEH - Aceh had the opportunity to be deeply religious –not extremist, Baroness Warsi, the Minister without Portfolio in UK Cabinet Minister, said. Being a religious is practicing the theory of the religion in a well manner.
"Being religious is different with being an extremist," she said on Thursday in Aceh. For her, being extremist is not practicing the religion properly.
She emphasized that Aceh was in a cross road. It means that Aceh should make a decision on which way to go, whether being religious or extremist.
"The local government should ensure that extreme practicing do not creep in. Because I think it would destabilize the future," she said.
Baroness Warsi, the first female Muslim minister in UK government, visited Indonesia for three days. Her visit was to follow Prime Minister David Cameron's visit few weeks ago.
"I want to improve the relationship between UK and Indonesia. This is an opportunity to make friends, deepen the relationships, and to learn more about Indonesia," Warsi said.
She was visiting Aceh on her last day in Indonesia. She emphasized that UK has been involved in Aceh for years, individually and a part of European project. "We continue to remain engage," she said.
