REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Government would build a center for the development of automotive technology and industry to produce 10,000 national electric cars in 2014, the Coordinating Minister for Economy, Hatta Rajasa, said. "We decide to build the center for the development of automotive technology and industry for green car," Hatta said on Monday.

Hatta explained the development center would be supervised by the joint team from the Ministry of Research and Technology, the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Transportation, and the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises.

Government will also issue Governmental Regulation on incentives and disincentives to boost the development of electric car, such as the decreasing of tax, the exemption of Sales Tax on Luxury Goods (PPnBM), and exemption of import duty on the main components of electric car. Hatta said government would develop three kinds of cars, namely minibus for public transportation, pick-up car, and city car, with the priority on city car.
