BI prepares cash and non cash payment to anticipate Eid

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Bank Indonesia (BI) has prepared cash and non cash payment system to service public needs ahead Eid al Fitr this year, as cited in BI’s official website recently. BI will distribute of cash through BI head office as well as domestic representative offices. Meanwhile, the increase non-cash payment system is prepared by improving infrastructure and its services.

BI has predicted the cash needed during Ramadhan and Eid al Fitr is around 89.4 trillion IDR or increases by 9.1 trillion IDR compared with the previous year. 

“The volume of large banknote denominations, such as 100,000 IDR, 50,000 IDR, and 20,000 IDR, is predicted to reach 81.1 trillion IDR. While the small banknote denominations, such 10,000 IDR, 2,000 IDR, and 1,000 IDR as well as coins, is predicted to total 8.3 trillion IDR,” explained Head of Public Relations Difi A Johansyah.

BI also prepares infrastructure and payment system services to anticipate the increase of non-cash payment transaction (RTGS, clearing) and the transaction volume is expected to increase by 13.7 percent from regular transaction. 

“To anticipate the increasing number of transactions, BI will cooperate with banks and add operational hours if necessary,” he explained.

 

Less cash society

This year, BI attempts to integrate cash and non-cash payment service in order to realize less-cash society. It aims to raise public and retailers awareness to expand their use of card-based payment (APMK). “Particularly electronic money instead of banknotes and coins, especially for small denominations,” he said.

Mobile cash will be available in Monas on July 30, 2012. Public can also conduct to exchange money into electronic money (e-money) free of charge by using the ATM card/debit. “Besides expanding non-cash payment system, it also provides safety and ease for public in doing transaction,” he uttered.
