REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SOLO - A granade thrown by unknown people exploded last night at a police station on the eve of Idul Fitri, the end of Islamic fasting month, in the Central Java city of Solo but no one was injured , police said. The incident at the Gladak police station, followed a recent shooting at the Gemblengan police station in the city injuring two police officers, city mayor Joko Widodo said on Sunday morning.
The granade throwers riding a motorcycle apparently wanted to terrorize the people, Joko said. "I wonder why people wanted to terrorize Solo," he said.
Joko is a potential candidate to win the an election next month for a new governor of Jakarta, facing incumbent Fauzi Wibowo.
Joko asked the people to remain calm in celebrating Idul Fitri. City police chief Coms Asdjima`in said the incident is still investigated. Police suspected the two incidents targeting police this months were related.
