REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Four members of House of Representatives and two special envoys of Ministry of Social visited Myanmar in a humanitarian mission for Rohingya refugees. The members, all from Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) faction, are Hidayat Nur Wahid, Sohibul Iman, Nurhasan Zaidi, and Ledia Hanifa.
"The delegation will complement the effort done by Jusuf Kalla in his capacity as the Chairman of Indonesian Red Cross and Indonesian special envoy for Rohingya," the President of PKS Lutfi Hasan Ishaq said.
While Wahid explained that the mission was to encourage Myanmar government to open the access for humanitarian aids for Rohingya in Rakhine state/Arakan. "The conflict is declared as domestic problem, but the impact reaches beyond the border. There are 500 Myanmar refugees in Indonesia, not to mention those in the borders of Bangladesh and Thailand. We have to find the solution which is in accordance with ASEAN principles," Wahid said.
As the only female member, Ledia Hanifa said Indonesia had taken initiative step to support the democratization in Myanmar through parliamentary caucus. "We have to give more attention to avoid more victims, especially children and women. Myanmar government must respect human rights and open the access based on international standard," she said. The delegation expects to meet the Myanmar's Parliamentary Speaker, the Minister of Border Affairs, and the Minister of Social Welfare.
