REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, LONDON - Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono claimed that Britain understood the policy taken by Indonesian Government. He underlined that the central government treated Papua based on democratic principles. 

Unlike during New Order Era, Indonesian Armed Force allegedly conducted violent act in Papua. "If people think that Indonesia is still the same country as decades ago, we would reject the notion and I am determined to explain it in every forum," SBY said as reported by Esthi Maharani from Republika, during a press conference in last weekend in London.

"We are changing for the better. They should know. We avoid wrong perception towards our countries," he said.

Demonstration on Papua occurred while Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono visited London, Britain. The protest was held in Richmond Terrace.

Before SBY visit UK, the West Papua Advocacy Team (WPAT) has refused his arrival in London. They claimed that SBY had committed crimes of humanity against people in Papua.

The protest was conducted for two hours after the ceremony was ended. UK police was seen guarding every corner of Horse Guard entrance. 

A day before, two human rights activists tried to reach Yudhoyono's car but were stopped by police. Scotland Yard confirmed that they arrested one man for attempting to disrupt the Indonesian leader's visit., papua
