REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PHNOM PENH - Myanmar invites Indonesia to invest in Rakhine, a state in Myanmar where Rohingya conflict takes place. Indonesia welcomes the invitation positively, saying that the country will focus on education and economy.
The invitation was extended during a bilateral meeting between Indonesia and Myanmar on the sideline of the 21st ASEAN Summit and the 7th East Asia Summit in Phnom Penh on Tuesday. Both countries talked on economic cooperation and Rohingya issue.
Indonesia, represented by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, asked about the Rohingya dispute that drew international attention.
"We are listening to the steps taken by Myanmar Government," Presidential Staff on International Relations, Teuku Faizasyah, said on Tuesday as reported by Arys Hilman from Republika. Indonesia is ready to help.
Myanmar President Thein Sein explained that the dispute was communal conflict, not related to religion. Myanmar Government will reconstruct the region and invite Indonesia on the project.
SBY said that he understood the explanation because Indonesia had also suffered communal conflict. Indonesia and other ASEAN countries like Malaysia and Brunei try to place the issue proportionally.
Indonesia will also support the transformation of Mynamar. SBY said the process was on the right track.
