Manado and Liverpool officially sister cities

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, LIVERPOOL – Manado in Indonesia, officially becomes the sister city of Liverpool in Britain on Monday after both local governments signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The MoU was signed by Mayor of Manado Vicky Lumentut and Mayor of Liverpool Sharon Sullivan in City Hall of Liverpool.  

Indonesian Ambassador to UK and Ireland, Hamzah Thayeb, welcomed the cooperation and expected such cooperation to increase bilateral relationship of both countries and enhance people-to-people contact.

Both countries have many similarities. Liverpool and Manado are port cities with tourism as the biggest contributor of the income. Both are also creative cities. Liverpool is Pop Capital of Europe, while Manado has many singers. 

Mayor Sharon also welcomed the cooperation and planned to visit Indonesia. The MoU says that Liverpool and Manado will cooperate on culture, tourism, education, training, environment, health and sport, industry and trade. According to MoU, each country must protect another country's intellectual rights based on valid national law of each country.
