REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAYAPURA - One officer was safe but three others were killed after unknown gunmen attacked a police station in Pirime in the district of Lanny Jaya, Papua, early on Tuesday morning. One of the officers who was killed in the attack at around 6.30 am local time is Second Inspector Rofli Takubesi, who was the chief of the Pirime police sector, Papua Regional Police Command spokesman Adjunct Senior Commissioner Gede Sumerta said.
The others are Brigadier Jefri Rumkoren and First Brigadier Daniel Makuker who were members of the police sector. The officer who was safe is First Brigadier MG, by his initials, but he was not yet informed about his present conditions.
He said the chief of the Papua Regional Police Command, Inspector General Tito Karnavian was already in Wamena on the way to Pirime which is around three hours drive from the district.
Chiefl police: under control
National Police Chief Gen. Timur Pradopo has stated that the police are in control of the security situation in Lany Jaya district, not long after a shooting incident in which a few policemen were killed at Pirime police headquarters, Puncak Jaya, Papua province, on Tuesday morning.
"The Resort Police chief has the security situation under control," he said at the State Palace here on Tuesday. "The police have stepped up security in the area by sending a company of mobile brigade police, who will assist in maintaining peace."
