REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesia must have its own satellite launch station, Indonesian Minister for State-owned Company Dahlan Iskan said. Biak Island in Papua, located near equator line and Pacific Ocean, is a perfect location to build the station.
"State-owned and private companies in Indonesian can save up to 70 million USD to launch a satellite," Iskan said on Wednesday.
Biak Island has been nominated as location for satellite launch station in a program between Russia, German and Indonesia. National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN) plans to build the space port in the island due to its strategic location.
In the future, Dahlan expects every state-owned company to have their own satellites. "I agree if Bank Mandiri and BNI have their own satellites," he said.
