REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Governor of Jakarta, Joko Widodo, learned odd-even license plate policy from Thailand during his meeting with Ambassador of Thailand to Indonesia, Thanatip Upatising. Upatising visited Jokowi on Friday in Governor's office.
"He told me about the failure of odd-even license plate rules in Thailand," Jokowi said on Friday.
Jokowi plans to implement the rule in the capital city to tackle traffic jam. However, he admitted that there were pros and cons of the regulation. According to Upatising, many people in Thailand changed their license plate number or even bought a new car.
Jokowi said Thailand's transportation was much better today due to good public transportation. Jokowi is interested on how Thailand implement the policy on massive transportation, in which Jakarta can take it as an example.
Jokowi also learned about high parking tax and bicycle line in Bangkok. "We may implement it this year," he said.
