REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono officially announces Roy Suryo as the new Minister of Youth and Sports during press conference on Friday.
"I have determined to appoint Drs Roy Suryo Notodiprojo Msc as Minister of Youth and Sports," SBY said on Friday after discussing with Vice President Boediono and several ministers.
SBY mentioned that Suryo was the right man to fill the empty chair because he had integrity and capacity. Suryo earlier on that day has conducted some interview and fit and proper test in state palace.
The president explained that Suryo faced several tasks ahead. The main important task is Hambalang graft case, which is involving the former Minister of Youth and Sports Andi Mallarangeng. SBY instructed Suryo to consolidate the Ministry of Youth and Sports to conduct their tasks and enhance their performance.
Suryo is also tasked to settle the problems of Indonesian football by coordinating with Indonesia Olympics Committee (KOI), National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI) and FIFA. SBY also tasked him to enhance and maintain the achievements of Indonesian sports.
Roy Suryo will be inaugurated officially on Tuesday. Suryo said that people underestimated him. "I know that people have low expectation. I thank people for that," he said.
Admitting that he does not have background on sports, he considers the critics as suggestion. He asks Indonesians to work together to build sports.
