Volunteers start cleaning the streets and public facilities affected by flooding

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - One thousand volunteers cleaned the streets, public facilities, and parking lots on Sunday as Floods has left rubbish and gravels on the affected areas in Jakarta. 

The action called "Jakarta Berbenah" was started at 09:00 from Tebet in South Jakarta to Kampung Melayu in East Jakarta. "We invite people to hand in hand helping our fellows who become the victims by flooding," Coordinator of Jakarta Berbenah, who is also Executive Director of Dompet Dhuafa, Ahmad Juwaini, said on Sunday. They targeted public facilities including mosques, governmental offices, the streets, and parking lots.

 

Plaza UOB

Meanwhile resue team assisted by fire brigade were still trying to pump water out from the flooded basement at Plaza UOB.  "We used all possible means," the Head of Jakarta Fire Department, Paimin, said.

He predicted the water volume in the basement was 90,000 cubics. "Draining is important to remove the danger since the basement (two levels -Ed) is 17 meters high," he added.
