REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The only new party contesting for 2014 general election, National Democratic Party (Nasdem) will appoint Surya Paloh as its chairman during Nasdem Congress in Jakarta Convention Center on Friday-Saturday.
"We will appoint Mr. Surya Paloh as a chairman," the outgoing chairman of Nasdem, Patrice Rio Capella, said on Friday. Paloh will also announce the new management structure of the party.
Earlier, the appointment was criticized by one of its former member, Hary Tanoesudibjo as he argued that the party must be led by young generation. On Monday, Tanoe chose to resign from the party over disagreement.
A member of Nasdem, Ferry Mursyidan Baldan, said the party remained to be solid despite Tanoe's resignation. "His influence is not strong because he just joined politic less than five years ago," Baldan said.
He explained that the party was still undergoing consolidating process as an effort to win 2014 general election. He added that Nasdem had prepared a strategy to help its legislative candidates winning the election.
He targets the party to be the top three parties in the next general elections. "The target will pave the way to win both local leader and presidential election," he said.
