REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Ministry of Home Affairs announces that about 175 million voters will be eligible to vote during 2014 general election. Minister of Home Affairs, Gamawan Fauzi, said the figure was obtained from the data of electronic identity card (e-KTP).

"We believe this is the valid data. There is no double data," Fauzi said on Tuesday. He will submit the data to General Election Commission (KPU) on February 7, 2013.

Fauzi predicts that the number of voters will raise as about 14 million people have not yet recorded in e-KTP. With additional people, the number of voters will be reach 190 million. It is increasing from the number of voters in 2009, which is 171,068,667 people.

Fauzi said KPU could put 175 million voters in initial list of voters of 2014 general election. He guarantees that the data is valid and accurate.

A member of Commission II at the House of Representatives, Arif Wibowo, said the data from the Ministry of Home Affairs was valid considering that e-KTP system was not manual and could not be manipulated. However, Wibowo still asked KPU to verify the data.

He also encouraged unregistered people to record their data for e-KTP. He hopes all Indonesian citizen can participate in the upcoming election.

Ministry of Home Affairs explains that the data of voters will be submitted to Central KPU. Then, the data will be taken to Provincial KPU and Regional KPU. The data will be submitted simultaneously, including for voters who live abroad. KPU will cooperate with Ministry of Foreign Affairs to verify them.
