REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BOGOR - Democrat Party Advisory Board Chairman Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) officially took over the ruling party on Friday night then asked the party’s chairman, Anas Urbaningrum, to focus on his legal issue with Indonesian Corruption Eradication Comission (KPK). Yet, SBY emphasized that Urbaningrum was still the party’s chairman as well as the deputy chairman of High Council –the highest party’s council chaired by SBY himself.

“Anas Urbaningrum is still in current position as deputy of High Council, while I’m directly in charge to reorganize and fix this party. I allow him to focus on his case and hopefully justice will prevail. We will provide legal assistance if necessary,” SBY said after a two hour extraordinary meeting at his residence on Friday night. 

“High Council will decide and implement every measure while the council’s chairman is responsible to take strategic decisions,” SBY added. “Whoever objects with these measures, please leave.”

At the same time SBY also asked all party cadres to focus more on reorganizing process despite general elections approaching in 2014. “Set aside the general elections 2014, and let's focus more on reorganizing, and consolidating process to bring the party back in track to its genuine character,” SBY said.  

Polling held by Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting has sent a wake call for the party. The polling showed that the electability of the ruling party was only 8.3 percent or set at the lowest point since it was created.

Eight measures

First, SBY asked all cadres especially who sit in party’s structure to sign integrity pact. “I hope all the party’s officials will have signed the pact by the end of February. Whoever rejects signing it, please leave,” he said firmly.

Second, the party will take repositioning measure to put  “the right person in the right place”. 

Third, every party member must submit their wealth report to the party’s commission responsible to oversee the party's ethic. 

Fourth, every party member pays tax without exception. As SBY takes over Democrat Party, Democratic Party will undergo restructuring process to develop the party into a professional and modern party with better management. 

Sixth, the party will enhance the quality of its public relation division. They will pick the persons in charge for public speaking including those responsible to make any press statement. 

Seventh, the party will hold a series meetings for consolidation.  “I guarantee that we will conduct the restructuring process at local up to national level,” SBY said. 

Eight, Democrat Party will focus more on reorganizing the party and temporaly set aside general election 2014.
