REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MANADO - Flood and mudslide have killed at least 10 people in Manado, capital city of North Sulawesi, Indonesia. Nine of them were buried under mud, while another was drowned. The death toll may increase as rescue workers continue searching for missing persons.
"Flood has been hampering the evacuation," Spokesman of National Board of Disaster Management (BPBD), Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, said in his text on Sunday.
Flood hit Manado on Sunday at 01.00 Central Indonesian Time and inundated more than 1,000 houses in seven regions in Manado nearly two meters deep. The number of refugees is mounting to 1,200 people. BPBD has built emergency posts and given aid, such as tents, foods, emergency kit, drugs and blankets.
