REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Floods inundated Jakarta on Tuesday morning. Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) stated that 11 regions in Jakarta were flooded as heavy rains caused water level in Katulampa Dam to rise up to 250 centimeters.
"Until 10.20 am, about 11 regions are inundated," the Head of Informatics and Management at BPBD, Edy Junaedi Harahap, said on Tuesday.
He explained that the regions with the worst flood were Kampung Melayu and Kampung Pulo in East Jakarta. The water level in Kampung Melayu reached 30 centimeters and even up to 250 centimeters in Kampung Pulo.
"Kampung Melayu is located near river. It is only 15 meters away from river bank," he said. He added that the floods displaced 2,406 people.
Floods also caused the banks of Ciliwung River to burst and inundated houses in Pejaten Timur, South Jakarta, up to 150 centimeters of water, displacing several families. The victims were evacuated to higher places, such as mosque.
