REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - As an effort to prevent traffic jams in Jakarta and greater Jakarta, Ministry of Transportation plans to build more 30 lanes for Transjakarta starting next year to 2020.
Director General of Land Transportation, Suroyo Alimoeso, said government would also build several facilities, such as parking lot and bicycle and pedestrian lanes. Government needs at least 738 buses for the new routes to transport more than 2.3 million passengers per day.
As an initial step, government will build four routes, which are Pulogadung-Harapan Indah, Bekasi-Pinang Ranti, Blok M-Cinere, and Bekasi-Cawang.
Vice Minister of Transportation, Bambang Susantono, said the new routes were expected to solve traffic problems in Jakarta. "Our target is to eliminate traffic jam by 2014," he said.
