Energy Minister officially opens non-fuel power plant

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, AMURANG - Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jero Wacik, officially opens seven non-fossil fuel power plants in Sulawesi. The power plants can save the usage of fuel more than a trillion IDR a day.

"The power plant projects are our commitment to meet national electricity demand and encourage the usage of renewable energy, especially geothermal and solar power," Wacik said during the opening ceremony on Wednesday in Minahasa.

The seven power plants are two units of steam power plants in Amurang, two units of steam power plants in Kendari, geothermal power plant in Lahendong, mini hydro plant in Tomini, solar power plant in Miangas, solar power plant in Bunaken and solar power plant in Marampit.

Government commits to decrease the usage of fuel power plant regarding the increasing price of fossil energy. Government will also minimize the building of coal power plant as it generates environmentally unfriendly carbon dioxide (CO2).

Executive Director of state electricity PLN, Nur Pamudji, said PLN would increase the consumption of renewable energy while decreasing the usage of fuel for power plant. PLN also starts using vegetable oil from coconut palm instead of diesel fuel to take the advantage of declining price of palm oil.

"PLN signs a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Wilmar Nabati for diesel power plant in North Sumatra," Pamudji said,
