REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Democratic Party signals that it will elect a new chairman by acclamation in extraordinary congress held in Sanur, Bali, on March 30-31. Several elites of Democratic Party admitted that acclamation was the best choice.
A member of Democratic's advisory board, Hayono Suyono, said the party would get more public sympathy by electing a chairman by acclamation. "The party is in critical condition," he said on Sunday.
Earlier, Secretary of Democratic Party's Supreme Assembly, Jero Wacik, ensured that the new chairman replacing Anas Urbaningrum would be chosen by the Chief Patron of Democratic Party, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY). The extraordinary congress will only ratify a name supported by the Supreme Assembly. Wacik said all members would agree to SBY's decision.
Suyono said that acclamation was also a model of democracy. "Acclamation is the right thing to do in this condition," he said. He added that despite acclamation, all members would be invited in the upcoming congress.
One of the predicted candidates, Saan Mustopa, said SBY would not hamper the support from branches for him. "He provide opportunity for all cadres," he said.
