REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) urges government to evaluate and monitor the move of Detachment 88 following the commission's investigation on a video contained violence allegedly committed by the anti-terrorism squad in Poso, Central Sulawesi, circulating in Youtube.

The Head of Komnas HAM, Siti Nurlaela, said the weak monitoring towards the institution could lead to human rights violation. "Their working pattern is very private. They are less likely to cooperate with local police," she said on Monday.

The video shows that counterterrorism unit of Detachment 88 shot alleged terrorist to death during Poso conflict on January 22, 2007. The conflict broke out in 1998. About 11 people who were not in the list of 'wanted persons' (DPO) were killed. She said that it violated Article 28 Section 1 on Constitution of Indonesia.

Komnas HAM discovers the facts that Detachment 88 did not help the critical victim in purpose. "Komnas HAM condemns the inhuman violation," she said. Nurlaela hopes government can redefine the term 'terrorist' and form independent institution to monitor Detachment 88.
