REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) drew criticisms as he a held press conferences on Democratic Party issue at the Presidential Palace on Wednesday night. The press conference was held after Yenny Wahid, the daughter of 4th president Abdurrahman Wahid, called off her plan to join the ruling party.

A member of parliament from Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), Indra, regretted SBY's decision to hold his party's press conference at the palace. "We should revise the presidential election law that a president should not allowed to become party's leader," Indra said on Thursday.

Chief Executive of Democratic Party, Syarif Hasan, defended SBY's move. "He has the right to stay in the palace, furthermore the press conference was held after working hours," he said.

Related to Yenny Wahid decision, Hasan said the chairman of Democratic Party never offered any position at the party. Earlier, Wahid announced that she cancelled her plan to join the ruling party.
