REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The Amnesty International reported that Indonesia failed to implement 2005 peace agreement with Province of Aceh. The victims or conflict in Aceh were reportedly still waiting for justice since the government failed to establish truth commission.
Around 15 thousands people were killed in 30 years of fighting between the Indonesian military and the Free Aceh Movement (GAM). The war ended in 2005 after two sides signed a peace deal when Indonesian government provided greater autonomy status to Aceh. But Amesty said that both sides were guilty of human rights violation.
"Many families still do not know what happened to their loved ones who dissapeared while those who are responsible walk free," Deputy Director of Amnesty International to Asia Pasific, Isabelle Arradon said on Friday.
According to presidential spokesman, Julian Aldrin Pasha, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) met Governor of Aceh, Zaini Abdullah on Thursday, to seek solutions. Earlier, Ministry of Home Affairs said there were 12 points of evaluation to the government of Aceh, while only two points had discussed, include the using of former separatism's flag as the province's.
