Historical sites of 'Bung Karno' in Ende to be revitalized

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Historical sites of Sukarno -then became the first president of Indonesia- in Ende, East Nusa Tenggara finally get government's attention. Head of Ende Flores Foundation, Goenawan Muhammad said Vice President Boediono took the initiative to revitalize 10 sites related to life of Sukarno or popular as "Bung Karno".

"Ende's people asked the Vice President during his visit to Ende," Muhammad said. 

Ende played important part in national history. In the city, basic of 'Bhinneka Tunggal Ika' as national logo was born when Bung Karno being exiled in Ende. In 1934 to 1938, Bung Karno has compiled  the logo or lierally means "unity in diversity" and later Pancasila as was born as five pillars of Indonesian idelogy.

Natural environment and pluralistic society in Ende have influenced Bung Karno to dream of an independent state based on Pancasila. When Bung Karno have speech on June 1, 1945 in front of The Committee for Preparatory Work for Indonesian Independence (BPUPKI), he mentioned five national pillars enshrined in Pancasila.
