REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Acting Chairman of Indonesian Buddhist Congress (Walubi), Arief Harsono expressed his support related to policies of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to solve conflicts between Muslims ethnic of Rohingya and Buddhists in Rakhine, Myanmar. He said Indonesian Buddhists condemned any form of violance and oppression.
"We think measure taken by Mr President's step are very appropriate. He made us as Indonesian Buddhists, feel comfortable because Indonesia took part in humanitarian relief in Myanmar," Harsono said on Monday.
He added, Buddhists should live in coexistence with people of other religions without hatred. Harsono appealed to both sides in Myanmar to prevent violence.
Meanwhile, President Yudhoyono said Indonesia continued to encourage security and peace among religious communities in Myanmar. "We don't want human tragedy experienced by our Rohingya's brothers reoccur," he said.
