REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA - Government plans to close "Dolly", red light area in Surabaya, East Java, this year. Minister of Social Affairs, Salim Segaf Aljufri said the closure required an integrated approach.

"There are 21 red light areas in East Java. Three of them in Surabaya, 11 in Banyuwangi and seven in Malang," Aljufri said on Wednesday.

Aljufri added government previously had closed two red light areas, Kramat Tunggak in Jakarta and Saritem in Bandung, West Java. The measure then caused commercial sex workers there migrated and operated in other areas. Aljufri admitted that such case needed cultural approach.

The religious and traditional leaders, including local official are the most respected figures who should become important pillars.
