REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JATINANGOR - The rich people in Indonesia is predicted to rise 99 percent in 2017. In a statement that is reported by Global Wealth Report of Credit Suisse, number of rich people in Indonesia reached 104 thousand in 2012.

"Later in 2017, this number will be 207 thousand people," Chairman of Indonesia's Regional Representatives Council (DPD) Irman Gusman in a public lecture at the Institute of Public Administration (IPDN) in Jatinangor, West Java on Monday.

Indonesia is estimated to be one of five countries with the highest growth rate of the rich beside Brazil, Russia, Malaysia and Poland. However, Gusman admitted the growth of rich people in Indonesia would be a paradox to a large number of poor people. Although BPS claimed the number of poor people decreased 0.89 percent in 2012, but the number was still larger than the entire population of Malaysia.

All of 10 richest people in Indonesia come from Jakarta. This in contrast in the US, where the 10 richest people live in different parts of the country.

Meanwhile, Disadvantaged District Association (Askati) recorded from 74 thousand villages in Indonesia, about half or 32 thousand villages live below poverty line. Most of them are in Sumatra and eastern Indonesia.

Gusman viewed these condition was caused of poor implementation of autonomy. The development orientation is still focused on macro-economic growth that increases above six percent per year but oonly enjoyed in certain areas as about 80 percent of national industry is located in Java.
