REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Hundreds of eartquake victims in Aceh still receive medical treatment at some General Hospitals. An earthquake measured 6.2 on the richter scale rocked Meriah regency and Central Aceh at 02.37 PM on Tuesday. The quake struck Tuesday afternoon at a depth of just 10 kilometers (6 miles) and was centered on the far western tip of Sumatra island in Aceh province.
National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) at Central Aceh continues to assess the impact of the earthquake damage. They reported 22 people dead, consisted of 10 people in Central Aceh and 12 people in Meriah regency. More than 210 people injured and thousands of buildings and homes were severely damaged.
"We estimated 1,500 buildings were damaged and several roads were landslides. Refugee camps are scattered in 10 points," Head of Public Relationat BNPB, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said on Wednesday.
On Wednesday morning, an Air Force's helicopter, Colibri, was sent to handle the earthquake. BNPB has also dispatched an Air Force's aircraft, CN-235 to conduct aerial photography and study of the impact of the earthquake damage.
