UN will examine Indonesia's human rights record

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - For the first time by the Human Rights Council of the United Nations will examine Indonesian human rights record on July 10-11, 2013 in Geneva, Switzerland. As one of 167 countries that approve the International Convention on Civil and Political Rights, Indonesia is required to undergo regular assessment on the human rights records.

"The meeting will take place on July 10 starting at 03.00 PM until 06.00 PM Geneva time, while on July 11 from 10.00 AM to 01.00 PM and it will be resumed at 03.00 PM to 06.00 PM in Geneva time," said representative of UN in a press release on Saturday.

The Geneva-based committee consisting of 18 independent international experts will engage in a dialogue with the Indonesian government delegation. While information about the human rights record of Indonesia are collected  from several institutions, including National Commission of Human Right, the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ), the Association for the Prevention of Torture (APT), and the International Fellowship of Reconciliation (IFOR).
