REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono expressed his disappointment over the incident in Tanjung Gusta Penitentiary in Medan, North Sumatra. He complained over lacking of the information and government's slow response.
"I knew it first from the mass media. Government system should act more quickly," Yudhoyono said in a sudden cabinet meeting at Halim Perdanakusumo airport Jakarta.
The president also criticized the absence of official statement after nearly 10 hours since the incident occured. "Provide official statement when it happens! Otherwise, people would think that we did not take action quickly, careless, and so on," Yudhoyono said.
Meanwhile, government has allocated one trillion IDR to repair the penitentiary. At least 212 inmates escaped during a riot on Thursday at 06.30 PM last week. Blackout has caused the inmates without water on Thursday morning. Some inmates provoked and sparked riot. They took 15 wardens as their hostages.
