REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Fiveten companies provide 1,725 buses to take people in Jakarta to various regions of West Java, Central Java and East Java to free homecoming trips during Eid celebration or locally popular as "mudik". Head of Public Relation in Jakarta Police, Rikwanto said buses would depart from July 31 to August 5, 2013.
"Some buses will also take people to western Indonesia, such as Lampung, Palembang (South Sumatra) and Padang (West Sumatra)," Rikwanto said on Sunday.
Free homecoming trips is intended to help people to return home safely and reduce the number of travelers using motorcycles which is a riskier way to travel. Passengers will departure from some locations, such as Park of Jakarta Police Traffic Directorate and west parking of Pekan Raya Jakarta in Kemayoran. In each point of departure, several police officers and government officials will be present.
Roads especially along North Coast area (Pantura) are almost ready to welcome travelers. The road lanes in that area become the busiest traffict during Eid season.
Improvement of lines spend a cost of 1.2 trillion IDR this year. Yet, traffic jams and landslides still pose biggest threats. Ministry of Public Works has conducted road widening, as well as build flyovers and underpass to solve traffic problems.
"We also have given a contravenes proposal on Pantura to Ministry of Transportation and Police," Minister of Public Works, Djoko Kirmanto said.
Government guarantees that Pantura is safe for travelers. The road is passed 44 thousand vehicles per day. Number of passing vehicles will increase by six percent.
