REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Potential money flows during homebound season in Eid al Fitr celebration is predicted to reach 90.08 trillion IDR. The funds flow through people in homebound trips in form of gift, alms, or charity to family members and relatives or tourism needs.
"The most costy is transportation at 22.7 percent, then it is followed by charity to relatives at 20.96 percent," General Manager of Social Development in Dompet Dhuafa, Muhammad Sabeth Abilawa said on Friday.
Based on a survey of Dompet Dhuafa's Poverty Research and Data Center, 52 percent of Muslim travelers pay their zakat or alms worth 14.7 trillion IDR. Alms is one of five pillars of Islam, means obligatory giving a certain portion of one's wealth.
Number of Muslim travelers in Indonesia is estimated more than 30 million people. About 18 million people use public transportation and the rest use private vehicles.
Nearly 56 percent of rural population do this ritual. Based on trend calculation by Bank Indonesia, amount of money that will be circulated three days before Lebaran holiday worth 300 trillion IDR.
