216 passengers of sunken ship evacuated

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, DENPASAR - Passengers of Gerbang Samudra ship that was sunken in Buih Kuning bay, about 200 meters to northern Gilimanuk port of Bali, were successfully evacuated. Operation Manager of PT Indonesia Ferry (ASDP) in Gilimanuk port, Susyanto Wahyudi said around 02.00 pm (local time) on Saturday, evacuation of 216 passengers was completed.

"This incident occured at 10.00 AM. Gerbang Samudra carried 216 passengers, consisted of 148 adults and 58 children," Wahyudi said on Sunday.

Gerbang Samudra ship was sunken while sailing from Ketapang to Gilimanuk. There were no fatalities in this incident. Beside carrying passengers, this ship also carried 42 motorcycles, 13 private vehicles and one pickup car which all still could not be evacuated. Operator still tried to pull ship from the water.
