Indonesian Red Cross to build blood vaccine plant

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) will build a blood vaccine plant. Chairman of PMI, Jusuf Kalla said that plant would reduce import quota of blood vaccine to Indonesia.

"It is urgent as we still import it," Kalla said on Tuesday.

Blood vaccine plant will be built in Jakarta and approximately spend investment of 600 billion IDR. The plant is expected to be completed around 2016 to 2017 and it will adopt technology from France.

The plant is expected to reduce Indonesian dependent to imported blood vaccine. Currently the value of total import of blood vaccine reaches 1.5 trillion IDR.

Meanwhile Kalla signed an agreement on cooperation between PMI and PT Citilink Indonesia, a subsidiary of state owned airline Garuda Indonesia. The low cost airline will donate 5000 IDR of every ticket sold in certain period to PMI. The funds will be used for for humanitarian purposes, such as in natural disasters and logistics.
