Forty four illegal immigrants in Sukabumi transferred to Sumatra

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SUKABUMI - Forty four illegal immigrants secured in Sukabumi, West Java, were transferred to detention center in Sumatra on Sunday. They were relocated to  Medan, North Sumatra and Tanjung Pinang, Riau Islands.

Dozens of immigrants were previously placed in temporary shelters at Sarah Hotel, Sukabumi. They are Srilankans, among passengers drowned in Cianjur water when trying to sail to Christmas Island in Australia last July.

"There are 16 other illegal immigrants were sent to representatives of International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Jakarta," Chief of Sukabumi Immigration Office, Yayan Indriana said on Sunday.

Indonesia tries to prevent immigrants smuggling by supporting police step in prosecuting illegal immigrant smuggling. Government also issued Regulation of Minister of Justice and Human Rights No. 26/ 2013 regarding revocation of visa on arrival of Iranian citizens. Many Iranians misuse visa to seek asylum Australia.
