REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, LEBAK - A number of areas in Indonesia suffer from clean water shortage due to severe dry season. In Lebak, Banten, Chief Executive of Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Muklis said about 28 villages in five districts were suffering.
"We continue to coordinate with local water companies to supply water to the locations. People who live in five districts are now using river water for daily consumption, bathing, washing and toilet. In fact, river water is potentially infected by diseases," Mukhlis said recently.
In Yogyakarta, local government of Gunung Kidul has prepared about 3,600 water tanks to anticipate drought season in 2013 that hit this area. Local government has provided budget of 500 million IDR. Regional Head of Ministry of Social Service, Manpower and Transmigration in Gunung Kidul, Dwi Warno Widi Nugroho said water distribution began to be conducted on Monday to people who live in drought prone areas.
In Riau, people of Tanjung Pinang have trouble to get clean water for daily life as their wells dry up. Lisa, a resident of Tanjung Pinang said that clean water was hard to find since a week ago after no rainfall and dry up wells in three months.
