REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PALU -- Police in Central Sulawesi seized 1,393 bottles of liquor in a week-long raid on different places in the provincial capital Palu.

The liquor also included hundreds of liters of traditional alcoholic beverage made of distilled palm sap, locally known as "cap tikus", Central Sulawesi provincial police spokesman Adj. Snr. Comr. Soemarno said here on Sunday.

He said Comr Ridwan of the provincial police's criminal detective unit led the raid which ended on November 20, 2013.

Liquor could give rise to criminal offenses, including brawl and and raping, he pointed out.

"Therefore, the police keep curbing the circulation of liquor," he said.

However, he added that the police still found it hard to curb the circulation of traditional liquor since it was produced on a household scale.

None of liquor sellers was arrested in the raid but the police only warned them against selling it again, he said.

"If they insist on selling it we will arrest them," he said.

Illegal liquor was one of the targets of the raid code-named public disease operation, besides gambling and drug trafficking, he said.
