REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANGKA -- Deputy for worker protection and employment at the manpower and transmigration ministry, Agustin Subiantoro said Indonesian workers abroad contribute Rp100 trillion to the country's foreign exchange earning per year.
There are 4 million Indonesian migrant workers in various countries in the world mainly in Malaysia and Middle East.
It is a big money that could help the government in its efforts to build infrastructure and improve the welfare of the people, Agustine said here on Tuesday.
He said, however, the government does not encourage the people to work abroad but working abroad could be an alternative.
Many Indonesian workers are facing problems abroad. In Saudi Arabia thousands of Indonesian workers overstayed their visa.
"We will be ready to provide information for people wanting to work abroad and we would offer training," he added.
