REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono attended the peak commemoration of National Teachers Day 2013 and the 68th anniversary of the Indonesian Teachers Association (PGRI) at the Bung Karno Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The President was accompanied by First Lady Ani Yudhoyono at the event, which brought together more than 9,000 teachers from across the country.
A number of ministers, including Education and Culture Minister Mohammad Nuh, Religious Affairs Minister Suryadharma Ali and Minister/State Secretary Sudi Silalahi and Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo were also present.
The peak commemoration of Teachers Day, which falls on November 25, was based on the theme of creating creative and inspirational teachers by upholding the code of ethics to support the 2013 curriculum.
On the occasion, President Yudhoyono also bestowed medals of merit on 56 teachers, headmasters and school supervisors for their remarkable achievements and dedication.
Meanwhile, Education and Culture Minister Mohammad Nuh presented awards to 12 teachers, who had won the 2013 national scientific forum contest and seven teachers, who had won the 2013 creativity contest.
PGRI Chairman Sulistiyo said the theme of the event was intended to push teachers to work more creatively and to uphold the code of ethics.
